A Wondrous Technique

                                  Thought for Today

Rabbi Chaim Volozhin, author of Nefesh HaChaim gives us a powerful technique by which we can completely short-circuit any negative, hostile or destructive energy that others may send our way, G-d forbid.

1. Strongly affirm in your heart that there is no power in the world besides for G-d.

2. Focus with all your might on the truth that all the worlds are completely filled with G-d's absolute Oneness.

3. Now give yourself over COMPLETELY to this awareness and pay no attention to anything else.

4. Think only about G-d being the One and Only Master of the universe and attach all of your thoughts to Him.

Rabbi Volozhin says that G-d will nullify all destructive energies that are being directed toward a person that does this technique with pure, sincere and unwavering faith. Since the person has attached himself or herself so strongly to G-d alone, G-d will transcend the laws of nature for the person and perform wonderful miracles on their behalf.

Live Broadcast Today

Our sages taught that we should consider everything we do before we do it, suggesting that we must learn to control our thoughts too.  How though, are we supposed to deal with thoughts when they enter our minds so automatically? Is it really possible to control thoughts? What is the Torah's view regarding  the role of memory? How can we ensure that concentration, memory and imagination are working for us rather than against us? These are some of the topics I'll speaking about later today in this week's live broadcast entitled: Your Higher Self.

The False God of Anger

What people crave most is a way out of their dreaded internal conflicts and uncertainty about themselves and their lives. People need the Truth in order to feel resolute in and safe about the decisions they are making and the goals they are pursuing. Without the Truth, they remain vulnerable to the first powerful emotion  and adrenaline release that comes along. They think to themselves:  'Wow this feels so much better. I like the power and control I'm feeling while I yell and scream. I really prefer this to the internal turmoil and self-doubting that I had before.' At once the raging person is convinced he is 'right,' and has found 'the truth' (the Devil's 'truth') after-all, how could such a powerful emotion be wrong?

Staying on Track

Many people are afraid of life's ups and downs. But like the train track's hills and valleys, they are unavoidable. Emuna enables us to deal with challenges and changing situations while remaining emotionally 'on-track.' Just as the train tracks must constantly be maintained in good condition, so must our emuna (Rabbi Shalom Arush).

Reducing Emotional Reactivity
